WASHINGTON (AP) — Adm. Daryl Caudle took over as the Navy’s highest-ranking officer Monday, ending a six-month vacancy created by the Trump administration’s firing of his predecessor.

The majority of National Guard troops deployed in Washington began carrying weapons this weekend. The pistols and powerful rifles they carry are similar to guns used by local police.
