Coroner: Kentucky 5-year-old who prompted IAN Alert died from drowning
The IAN Alert system became active in Kentucky one year ago, named after Ian Sousis, a 9-year-old boy with autism who ran away from a children’s home in northern Kentucky and drowned in the Ohio River in 2022. According to the National Autism Association, drowning is among the leading causes of death for people with autism.
On Tuesday, the first IAN alert was issued for 5-year-old Silas Shearer in Hart County, who went missing from his home.
