Juan Soto ripped a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth and David Peterson tossed 6 2/3 strong innings, fueling the host New York Mets to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.

The lefthander pitched well into the seventh inning and Pete Alonso, Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo all drove in runs as the Mets beat the Brewers, 3-2, in the rubber game of the series before 42,241 at Citi Field.

That the Mets are asking this much out of their leverage relievers, each in back-to-back appearances no less, in early July spells out what has become clearer and clearer this past week. The Mets cannot afford to wait until the trade deadline to make a move.
