ESPN's Jeff Passan confirmed MLB is investigating Ortiz for gambling-related activities. The Athletic's Zack Meisel noted Ortiz, who was scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs, is on "non-disciplinary paid leave" and he will be out at least through the All-Star break.

Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz is the latest MLB player to be involved in an investigation revolving around sports betting.

"The Guardians have been notified by Major League Baseball that Luis Ortiz has been placed on leave per an agreement with the Players Association due to an ongoing league investigation," the statement said. "The Guardians are not permitted to comment further at this time and will respect the league's confidential investigative process."
