Key U.S. agencies, including the FBI, State Department and the Pentagon, have instructed their employees not to comply with cost-cutting chief Elon Musk’s latest demand that federal workers explain what they accomplished last week — or risk losing their job.

The move escalates a monthlong assault on the U.S. Agency for International Development that has closed its D.C. headquarters and shut down thousands of programs worldwide.

The announcement comes two days after a federal judge ruled that the Trump administration may move forward with an effort to slash project funding and staff.
