A new study says private jet carbon pollution soared 46% from 2019 to 2023. Thursday's study figures about a quarter million of the super wealthy last year emitted 17.2 million tons of carbon dioxide flying in private jets.

Rich people have places to be, like the rest of us, but they don’t get there like the rest of us. They increasingly depend on private jet travel to get around — even for short distances — and a recent article in the academic journal Communications Earth & Environment says this has negative implications for the rest of the population.

New research published in the journal Communications Earth & Environment, analysed the habits of 18,655,789 private flights over four years to understand the role of private aviation in climate change.

The world's wealthiest people are using private jets like taxis to fly away to weekend getaways, sporting events and even climate conferences, researchers who track the flights say.
