Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that California is filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration, claiming that the move is "yet another political stunt to punish California."

California will sue President Donald Trump's administration over its decision to cancel billions of dollars in federal funding for the construction of a long-delayed high-speed rail line, the state's governor said Thursday.

After President Trump federalized California National Guard troops in response to anti-ICE riots in LA, Gov. Gavin Newsom told reporters, “It’s about time Donald Trump grow up."

The troops were assigned to guard federal buildings and support immigration agents during protests opposing immigration enforcement.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum visited the site on Thursday to study whether reopening it as a federal prison could work.

"Pam Bondi will reopen Alcatraz the same day Trump lets her release the Epstein files. So, never," Izzy Gardon, Newsom's director of communications, told SFGATE. The high-profile visit comes two months after President Donald Trump floated the idea of reopening the long-shuttered penitentiary as a maximum-security prison.
