Canada canceled a digital service tax on U.S. technology companies this week in order to preserve trade talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, but another irritant, in agriculture, could be a bigger thorn in the ongoing negotiations.

President Donald Trump said on Friday that because of Canada’s digital services tax on American tech companies, the U.S. will end all trade talks with its northern neighbor.

The government said on Sunday night that it would cancel its tax on American technology companies, handing a victory to the Trump administration.

The United States will resume trade negotiations with Canada immediately after Ottawa scrapped its digital services tax targeting U.S. technology firms, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Monday.

The Canadian government said “in anticipation” of a trade deal “Canada would rescind” the Digital Serves Tax. The plan to tax U.S. technology firms was set to go into effect Monday.

Canada is expected to resume trade talks with the U.S. after the Canadian government said late Sunday it was rescinding a digital services tax on American tech companies.

China warned President Trump on Tuesday against restarting trade tensions and that it will hit back at countries that make deals with the US to exclude China from supply chains. Last month, the US and China agreed on a trade framework to ease tensions,
